I joined a group tour to Dapitan City organized by Fantasyland Travel and Tours. Included in the tour are round trip transfers from CDO to Dakak Park and Beach Resort, city tour at Dapitan, Dakak Family Pavilion Accommodation for one night, one breakfast, one dinner and a Ride All the Rides at Gloria's Fantasyland. All of these only cost me Php1500!
After arriving at Dapitan City, the tourist bus that took us changed drivers and had a tour guide aboard and then we started the city historical tour. First stop was the site where Jose Rizal disembarked. There were statues of Rizal and artillery men. Also a few feet away from this site is a 20-foot cross erected during the arrival of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, and is said to symbolized the start of Christianity in the area.

The next stop is the relief map of Mindanao made by Rizal on almost 1 kilometer area of land. This map is made by Rizal to beautify the town plaza and also to educate his pupils in Dapitan. Names in the map are the original names of the places in Mindanao.

In front of the site of the relief map is the St. James Church of Dapitan. It is an old church built in 1871 in honor of the Patron Saint of Dapitan, St. James the Greater. Last stop of the city historical tour is the Rizal Shrine. It is a 16-hectare estate of Jose Rizal. According to our tour guide, Rizal purchased this land when he won a lottery. This place housed Rizal's memorabilia and his residence. Located there also is the rock where he and Josephine Bracken spent moments together.

This historical tour of the city of Dapitan is like going back to history. You get to touch and see what our history teachers were talking about during our high school years. It would be a great learning if students would have an educational tour in this place.
meet the world,
