Cebu City -- Sto. Niño and Magellan's Cross

One of the places that makes Cebu City famous is the Basilica of Sto. Niño.  It is a very old church located at the center of the city.  Perhaps, even non-Catholics who have been to Cebu City are familiar of this place.  This church is always crowded anytime of the day.  Many tourists and devotees came here to attend mass, light candles and to pray to the said to be miraculous statue of the Sto. Ni&#241o.

You can ride a taxi or jeepney to go this church.  I think all the citybound jeepneys will pass here or you can just tell the driver to stop by the corner nearest to the church.  You can not miss the place since many people, vendors and stalls are in the vicinity.  As for my principle, just follow where the people go and it will lead you to the church.

Just a walking distance from the Basilica is the equally historical Magellan's Cross.  This is said to be put up when the group of explorer Ferdinand Magellan arrived in the island on 1521.  The original cross is said to have been inside the cross that is in the center of the chapel.

Ironically, another spot is the statue of Lapu-lapu, which is in Mactan Island in Cebu.  Do not be confused, like what happened to a colleague, he instructed the taxi driver to bring him to "Magellan" when all he meant was Lapu-lapu, he was surprised to end up at the cross and paid so much.
